As part of our mission to serve the world, and in response to Jesus’ command in Mark 16:15 to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation,”  we have several opportunities to minister to our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world and also to those who have not yet heard the good news of the gospel:

Guatemala Partnership with Puerta de Esperanza through Children’s Hope Chest

Our church has partnered with a specific ministry, or carepoint, in Guatemala City called Puerta de Esperanza.  Puerta de Esperanza works with children and their families who live and work around the dump in Guatemala’s central market.  They provide a safe haven for the children during the day, healthy food, tutoring for school, and basic hygiene.  Every child is taught about and shown the love of Jesus every day.  There are several ways to participate in this ministry:

Sponsor a child

Members of Mt. Calvary sponsor about 40 children from Puerta de Esperanza on a monthly basis.  The cost of $45 a month covers food and hygiene, school uniforms, and  school supplies.  To learn more about Puerta de Esperanza or to sponsor a child, please click on the following link:

Short Term Mission Trip to Guatemala

As part of our partnership with Puerta de Espernza, we are privileged to spend a week each year ministering along side the team in Guatemala and getting to know the kids and families we sponsor.  This trip usually takes place in the early fall, and team members are responsible for their own costs which run around $1,200 – $1.500.      Preparation for this trip begins in January and includes fund raising, Bible study, and team building.   For more information, please contact Tracy  Taylor at tracyt@mclutheran.com.

Support Puerta de Esperanza with Prayer and/or Donations.

Part of our partnership includes ongoing prayer support and financial support for specific needs.  Click the link below to access the latest report from Puerta de Esperanza, including current needs and prayer requests.   If you would like to make a donation, simply give it to the church and write “Guatemala” on the envelope.
